NATIONAL AAU TRAINING CAMP

The weekend of October 9-11, 2015 The National AAU Taekwondo Program will break ground on a new and exciting event to be held in Ft. Lauderdale, FL—the First National AAU Taekwondo Training Camp which will be held at the Greater Ft. Lauderdale Broward County Convention Center with Headquarters housing at the Hilton Marina Hotel within walking distance.

“This camp is designed to be an extension of a much larger Program we initiated some 18 months ago with our Regional Training Camps”, says National Chair Mike Friello.  At that time, we began an initiative designed to raise the bar/level of proficiency of all members of the AAU Taekwondo Program.  I believe most coaches will concede that for   many years now the ‘top of the leader board’ belonged to a relatively small number of schools/clubs/training facilities and their respective coaches.

The first thing we wanted to do was to more clearly identify exactly who those top coaches were.  Our National Staff of course was included in that mix, but we specifically wanted to identify the next ‘layer’ consisting of 15-20 coaches who traditionally are responsible for the majority of elite players within the Program.

To do so we researched the past three years of Team Trials Events.  Not looking directly at our winners but all those who qualified and attended the Team Trials events we were able to make that identification, and with it, established our Regional Coaching staff.  Immediately thereafter we began hosting a series of Regional Training Camps.  These camps were and are all headed by at least one member of the National Coaching Staff along with as many as three Regional Coaches from that specific area.

And these camps headed by National Head Coach Master Greg Tubbs, Master Arlene Limas, Master Luciano medina, and Master Georgie Martinez, have proven to be a huge success.  The concept is to further spread the wealth of knowledge and experience that these top 20 coaches to the masses of our membership. 

The outstanding training camp we have planned for October in Florida is simply an extension of these high level Regional Training Camps.  Only this time we bring together our entire National coaching staff (as we do for our National Team Training Weekends held annually in January) who will be joined by the vast majority of all our Regional Coaching staff all under one roof!  The excitement level is already stating to go through the roof.

In addition, this excellent coaching staff we also be joined by some of the true leaders in the fields of Sport Injury Care, Sport Psychology, Diet and Nutrition.  We will also be opening up this training weekend to other coaches who are interested in , not just these advanced training methodologies and add-ons but will have several seminars designed to help improve their personal school businesses.
